Why We Built Chat Riot
ABOUT US
Chat Riot is designed to be more than a social media platform. It is social infrastructure. What’s the difference between the two? Social Media Platforms extract value from relationships. Social Infrastructure invests in the possibility of relationships.
Platforms optimize for: attention, expression, visibility, performance, and engagement loops. Social infrastructure does something quieter and more consequential: provide safety nets and guardrails, allow for setting boundaries, foster shared community standards, and create scaffolding for personal growth.
The gym creates the conditions needed for you to get stronger. The library creates the conditions needed for you to learn. Chat Riot creates the conditions needed for you to meet new people and have great conversations.

COMMUNITY & CULTURE
Chat Riot is not designed to participate in cancel culture. We encourage tolerance, listening, and the understanding that people will disagree. No one should be removed from a chat simply because you don’t like their point of view. Disagreement is part of real conversation.
That said, Chat Riot is also not a consequence-free space.
We built the Riot Shield so users can remove people who are acting in bad faith. With identity verification, a small but meaningful paywall, and trust in our community to moderate itself, we do a lot to discourage trolls and bad actors—but we can’t promise they’ll never appear. So let’s be clear.
What Will Get Someone Removed From a Chat? The following behaviors are not tolerated:
Hate Speech
Attacks or demeaning language directed at someone based on race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or nationality.Verbal Threats
Threatening violence or physical harm toward another person.Non-consensual sexual behavior
Including showing genitalia or engaging in sexual acts without clear, enthusiastic consent from everyone present. If everyone consents, you’re adults, we’re not here to judge or scold.
Consent is the key.
